animal farm: a fairy story
Animal Farm is a novella written by George Orwell, the whole storyline revolves around the idea of animals
that revolted against humans and aiming to create a new society where they can practice their animalism.
Nevertheless, how and why did Orwell chose to represent every character and event the way he did, or is
there a hidden meaning or symbolism behind every representation that happened throughout the novel?
In truth, Animal farm is an allegorical novel that reflects on the events and characters leading up to the Russian Revolution (1917-1944) in Soviet Russia. Through the usage of satire and metaphorical language, the novel touches the corruption, indifference and wickedness of the society back then. Like the events happened in Russian Revolution, Orwell is trying to deliver an overall symbolism and meaning of how everyone started off working towards the socialist society, which ended up revolting against fascism and attempting to start a democracy, as a result of having greedy leaders who longs for power which eventually corrupting the whole system itself, depicting the complete opposite of what they are trying to accomplish at the beginning, equality and democracy.
Through the different characters and events in the novel, Orwell mirrors the ideological conflicts and primary attributes of political leaders such as Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, as well as the use of propaganda techniques and the criticism towards the socialist society back then.
